From the depths of the meeting point between the Southern and Indian Oceans to the majestic and beautiful Blackwood River, wild and wonderful Augusta calls to the spirit of the sea the June long weekend at the 2026 Augusta Whalesong Festival.
The Whalesong Festival is a celebration for all to experience and enjoy what the Southwest has to offer in its natural beauty and community spirit.
The Augusta Community Resource Centre is once again delighted to host the Augusta Whalesong Festival over the WA Day long weekend, 29th May - June 1st 2026.
This annual event celebrates the migration of the whales and the biodiversity and unique collection of spectacular natural attractions that the Southwest and Augusta has to offer.
Come and celebrate this festival with us and revel in the fun, beauty and hospitality of our welcoming town.

Whalesong Festival Opening Ceremony

Come along and be part of the free Whalesong Festival Opening Ceremony and view the new Whale Tail that was built by our local Augusta Men’s Shed to celebrate our visiting whales to Flinders Bay and beyond.
Sausage Sizzle provided by Augusta Men's Shed, drinks supplied by Salty Corner Mini Golf. Music performed by Singrays and Ukulele Club.
Whalesong Frolic Cocktail Party

Kick start your Whalesong Festival experience by heading to the Augusta Centennial Hall to attend the Whalesong Frolic Cocktail party. Enjoy a welcome gin cocktail courtesy of Wild Lot Distillery. Settle in with live local music provided by Qinn Beardmore and delicious food by Soul Cocina as you sip on a glass (or two) of the superb Subsea Wines, our event sponsor. Prefer a beer? Enjoy a crisp, refreshing brew from one of the South West’s local breweries.
Dress attire for this event is casual.

Town Centre Festivities
Sat 30 May

Join us for the Whalesong Festival on the Augusta Main Street which will be alive with activities, decorations and music on Saturday morning.
Check out the wooden whales cut out by the Men’s shed and painted by the Augusta and Karridale Primary Schools, the Augusta Art Club and other Augusta interest groups.
See how many knitted and crocheted whales you can count on the decorations hanging from the shop verandahs.
Local businesses will also be involved by selling ocean themed items and having their shop windows decorated.
Street Parade
Sat 30 May - 11am – Augusta Historical Museum to Augusta Hotel
We encourage locals and visitors to line the street to watch the colourful Whalesong Parade.
Artist Sarah Zel Chescoe has created a 10 metre whale which will be danced in 3 parts down the street by the Blackwood River Dancers, past all the shops and ending on the lawn in front of the Augusta Hotel.
They will be followed by 2 Augusta skiffs and some vintage cars and accompanied by live music from Asha and the Ukulele group.
Whale Mural
Sat 30 May - 10.00am – 4.00pm – Cnr Ellis & Blackwood.
View the amazing whale mural created by artist Joey Hayes of Picoluv.
Add your special touch to this mural by painting a fish to contribute to the finished picture.
All visitors, big and small, are invited to participate.
Sand Sculpture WA
Sat 30 May - 10.00am – 4.00pm – Village Grocer
Come along and watch a special sand sculpture come to life over the course of the weekend by Tim Darby.
Tim has a degree in Fine Art majoring in sculpture and his work tends to be quirky and humorous and appeals to a wide audience. It will be created outside the Village Grocer and will represent the whale season and other ocean wildlife associated with Augusta.
You will be welcome to take photos as it progresses into our special masterpiece for the weekend.
Special Kite Display & Music
Sat 30 May – 12 noon onwards – Augusta Hotel
Head on down to the hotel for the afternoon’s entertainment.
Get your face painted by Jacinta the mermaid.
Watch Kite Kinetics kites and participate in a kite making workshop.
Listen to music from the Anchor Men, the Augusta Ukulele group, the Singrays, Kate Finklestein and Asha Hendry.
In the late afternoon the Soul Masters will perform.
Leeuwin Biddi Guided Walk & Sundowner
Sunday 31 May, 3:00pm
Augusta Boat Harbour
A guided walk to discover cultural, historical and environmental themes as you explore with your guides the new Leeuwin Biddi trail from the Boat Harbour to Leeuwin Lighthouse. Once there, reflect on your walk while enjoying a wine from our sponsor Subsea Wines or indulge in a cool refreshing beer from local southwest breweries. Local canapes will be served while you enjoy the music of local musician Kate Finkelstein as the sun sets in the west over this unique coastline we call home. Free transport provided as part of your ticket back to the Augusta Boat Harbour.

Movie Screening "Ocean"

Attend this free screening of Ocean with David Attenborough as he explores the planet’s undersea habitats, revealing the greatest age of ocean discovery and emphasising the ocean’s vital importance while exposing its problems and highlighting opportunities for marine life recovery.

Whalesong Market Stalls

Augusta Boat Harbour
Come join the free fun to celebrate the Whalesong Festival and immerse yourself in this unique family festival which celebrates the connection between earth, sea and marine life. From the longstanding spectacle that is the annual Blessing of the Fleet to the first whale watching tours of the season and non-stop entertainment and activities. Browse the stalls showcasing the best of the South West’s artisan crafts, fashion, jewellery, artwork and regional produce while taking in the amazing kite displays. Share in the fun and excitement of all that is on offer at the Augusta Boat Harbour including trying out your skills on the beautiful skiffs or visiting the big Marine Rescue sea vessels, red fire trucks and ambulances and meeting the hardworking emergency service volunteers.
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse

The historic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse at Augusta is situated at the tip of a spectacular peninsula where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet - the most south-westerly point of Australia. Take a trip through maritime history and learn how this famous landmark began construction in December 1895 from local limestone and opened in December 1896. It is still a vital working lighthouse for vessels navigating this treacherous cape. As the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is a must-see.
